DWTS 14 Week 6 Results: Good night Gladys Knight
Motown Week on “Dancing with the Stars” was full of sentimental hits, and a sentimental favorite left the ballroom. We knew it was only a matter of time, but Gladys Knight made her journey with such class and a little sass that we regret seeing her go.
What we’d love is to see her back singing with her Pips or even faux and funny Pips. Too bad Motown didn’t think of having Gladys Knight in her prime dancing with those guys. It could have been hot. It could have inspired a musical.
Knight and MacManus were pitted against Disney star Roshon Fegan and his partner Chelsie Hightower. The song was ”Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen. The dance was the quick-moving jive. Knight will be 68 at the end of May (28) while Fegan is 20. Pitting the oldest contestant against the youngest in one of the dances that requires stamina is sort of a no-brainer.

DWTS 14 Week 6: Will the Empress of Soul survive?
Everyone loves Gladys Knight, but she’s definitely the weakest dancer currently on ”Dancing with the Stars” season 14. Should Motown Week be her last?
I loved her flowing purple dress although I wasn’t sure what to make of her partner Tristan MacManus’ nerd in purple costume. I wish he worked Knight better and pushed her to at least create a persona because as a singer/performer, you know she can do it. And some of the moves MacManus uses look awkward for a woman of Knight’s figure and flexibility (that dip looks disastrous).
Knight’s performance of the rumba had style and grace, but was lacking in content just as I suspect MacManus seems to lack imagination.
Knight and MacManus were the first couple on for Motown Week, dancing a rumba to ”My Girl” with the The Temptations singing live. Can I say I hated MacManus’ white shoes? Knight, however, looked gorgeous.
Len Goodman said if he was judging purely from his heart, she’d be on top of his leader board. He called her the most charismatic dancer.
Bruno Tonioli said he liked his rumba steamier and while he didn’t expect Lady Gaga, at least a little Beyonce.
Carrie Ann Inaba said the hip action was fantastic but then there was that ending she forgot.
Of the eight couples who have danced the rumba thus far in season 14, Knight and MacManus have the lowest score with 21.
Who doesn’t love Gladys Knight? Still this is a dance competition and she needs to be pushed more to channel all that natural grace and rhythm. Despite her low scores, Knight has never been in the bottom two so tonight could be interesting. Will her fans keep her in the ballroom or will she be dueling jive with some other couple? Tune in tonight and find about.

DWTS 14 Week 5: Gladys Knight in danger? (VIDEO)
Could Latin night on “Dancing with the Stars” season 14, be Gladys Knight’s last? She was second to the last on the leader board after her samba routine with her partner Tristan MacManus only earned 20 points.
Knight danced the samba to ”Fiebre” by La Lupe which was Peggy Lee’s “Fever” in Spanish. While she looked stunning in green, I don’t think those ruffles that seems to be the current trend on DWTS does her any favors. She lost her timing here and there and I don’t think MacManus choreographed to her strengths. I think she needed work on when to straighten her legs to get maximum hip motion.
Len Goodman said she had great musicality and thought the routine was simple, but it was effective.
Bruno Tonioli loved her stage presence.
Carrie Ann Inaba mentioned her mistakes, but thought that she commanded the stage and her own “samba-licious” style.
I think if MacManus had more experience he would have more ideas on who to get a better performance and improve on her natural stage presence. He really doesn’t have her playing a character or put her in a scenario.Still I think Knight has more than just the Pips voting for her.

DWTS 14 Week 5: Five tens and a tie for first
Things were heating up on “Dancing with the Stars” on Latin night, with three teams receiving tens and a tie for the top spot. The celebrities for season 14 are all dancing well with the lowest score a 19.
Taking the top spot were two teams who performed the Argentine tango: Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins and her partner Mark Ballas and Latin telenovela heart throb William Levy and his partner Cheryl Burke. They received the exact same score with only head judge Len Goodman refraining from giving them perfect scores, settling instead for a nine.
Goodman gave a nine to TV commentator Maria Menounos and and her partner Derek Hough. With nines straight across, that team was tied for third with last week’s leader, football player Donald Driver and his partner Peta Murgatroyd. Driver and Murgatroyd received a perfect score from Carrie Ann Inaba, but an eight from Goodman and a nine from Bruno Tonioli.
Menounos and Hough performed a salsa to “The Cup of Life” by Ricky Martin. Driver and Murgatroyd danced an Argentine tango to “Sin Rumbo” by Otros Aires.
Menounos and Hough were the high score for salsa for Week 5, but Levy and Burke, who performed a salsa during week 3, still have the high score for salsa this season.
Jaleel White and Kym Johnson scored a 24 (8, 8, 8) to be the highest scoring samba of the night, but were the second highest score for that dance. Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower received a 25 (8, 8, 9) for this samba routine during week 3. Singer/actor Jack Wagner and his partner Anna Trebunskaya received a 24 (8, 8, 8) for their samba during week 3.
At the bottom, were Gladys Knight and Tristan McManus with a 20 (7, 7, 8) and Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff with 19 (6, 6, 7). Both teams performed a samba with DeGraw and Smirnoff performing to “Sweetheart from Venezuela” by Harry Belafonte. I think DeGraw and Smirnoff is likely to go.

DWTS 14 Week 4: Gladys Knight goes Bohemian (VIDEO)
On “Dancing with the Stars” season 14 for Rock Week, Gladys Knight and her partner Tristan MacManus went Bohemian and the results weren’t worth rhapsodizing. They were at the very bottom with only 20 points.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” wasn’t the worst song picked that night for a ballroom dance, but it didn’t help the Empress of Soul with her tango. There is a tango-fied version of the Queen song, but that’s not what was played on DWTS. The judges and Tom Bergeron performed the beginning phrases before Knight and MacManus launched into their ambitious routine. I don’t think Knight didn’t get to personify anything and the ending pose was just plain awkward.
Head judge Len Goodman praised MacManus for the choreography, but to my eyes MacManus still betray inexperience in choreographing for a celebrity. The moves he uses aren’t always flattering for Knight. Knight’s timing was off which is unusual for her, but the musical phrasing for this particular song is tricky. Knight steps too wide and her posture suffered.
Carrie Ann Inaba thought it was the couple’s most ambitious routine thus far, but also noted that it was a hard song to dance to and it didn’t quite come together.
Goodman wanted stronger posture and crisper movement with the feet.
Bruno Tonioli mentioned that Knight is always a class act, but the tempo changes in the music were problematic.
MacManus still hasn’t quite got the kind of strategy that some of the more experience professional dancers have, and I wish we could have seen Knight dancing to something more tango-appropriate.
