Dancing with the Stars’ Disney stars at D23 Saturday
If you haven’t bought tickets for Saturday’s D23 Convention in Anaheim, then it’s too late because Saturday has completely sold out. Saturday four former Dancing with the Stars competitors from four different seasons will be appearing to promote their current Disney programs.
Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, stars of the new sitcom “Melissa & Joey,” will make an appearance at 10:40 a.m. at the Welcome Center. Joey Lawrence was paired with the lovely Edyta Sliwinska in 2006 for a third place finish during season 6. Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke took first with Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff finishing second. During week 9, Lawrency and Sliwinka earned a perfect 30 for their rumba to The Bangles “Eternal Flame.” They also turned in a 29 for the quickstep to “42nd Street” by Lee Roy Reams.
During week 3, his rumba had only scored a 24.
His quickstep was also an improvement.
Week 2, he didn’t impress the judges though.
Melissa Joan Hart competed during season 9 with Mark Ballas. They were the seventh team eliminated. That season, entertainment legend Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson won with singer Mya and her partner Dmitry Chaplin in second and the delightful Kelly Osbourne and Louis van Amstel in third. Hart and Ballas’ best performance was their Charleston during week 4. Not all teams performed the Charleston and it was the first season that the Charleston was performed.
They performed to “Charleston” by Bob Wilson and his Varsity Rhythm Boys.
At 3 p.m. Chelsea Kane and Kyle Massey will be at the Disney Channel Pavilion along with fellow “Fish Hooks” cast member Noah Z. Jones.
During season 11, Kyle Massey was a surprise contender who always entertained even if his technique was lacking. Massey and his partner Lacey Schwimmer finished second behind Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough. Massey and Schwimmer never got a perfect score, but they did get close.
Massey and Schwimmer were the high score in the jive (to “Good Golly Miss Molly” by Little Richard during Instant Choreography Week) and samba (during week 9 to “She’s Got Me Dancing” by Tommy Sparks).
The holdout was Len Goodman who gave them a nine.
Chelsea Kane was paired with Mark Ballas and finished third although she started the season as the favorite, particularly paired with Ballas who had won before with Kristi Yamaguchi and Shawn Johnson. Instead Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were second and Hines Ward and Kym Johnson won.
Kane and Ballas received a perfect score for the rumba, the Viennese waltz and the Freestyle. They were the high score for the waltz (29).
The song was “Eyes on Fire” by Blue Foundation.
This week 10 performance was in improvement from the first time they performed it during week 4 (“Hedwig’s Theme” by John Williams).
The song is “Latinos” by Proyecto Uno.

There are still tickets for D23 on Sunday when the cast of “Shake It up” will give a live performance.
