Dancing with the Stars: Karina Smirnoff

Born in Ukraine, Karina Smirnoff began ballet lessons when she was five. At nine, Smirnoff began ballroom dancing.  The family moved to the U.S. when she was 12.

Smirnoff has also had gymnastics, figure skating and piano training.  Smirnoff is no dancing dimwit. She went on to Fordham University and graduated with a double major in economics and information system programming. She intended to study law, but instead decided to become a professional dancer.

Smirnoff is the first woman to ever make the British Professional Final with three different partners.

• Five-time U.S. National Champion
• World Trophy Champion
• Asian Open Champion
