Dancing with the Stars: Kym Johnson

Kym Johnson was encouraged to dance by her brother who thought it was a good way to meet girls. That’s according to the ABC Website, but is that really possible if she started dancing at the age of two?

Maybe ABC was thinking about ballroom because Johnson began that at 15. Her partner wasn’t her brother, but Tomas Atkocevicius and they placed second at the Australian Dancesport Championships and were finalists at the U.K. Ballroom Championships at Blackpool. She retired from competitive ballroom dancing in 2001, but she appeared in the “Burn the Floor” ballroom dance production and performed at Elton John’s 50th birthday party. Must have been quite a party.

Johnson was also in the film that started it all, Baz Luhrmann’s 1992 Australian romantic comedy, “Strictly Ballroom” in a small role (not listed in cast).
