Superstars of Dance: Salsa Friday

Yesterday, although there were workshops on cha cha and rumba, the day was mostly devoted to salsa.

Most of the thirty-odd people at the beginning salsa class had some salsa experience and all had dance experience. How do I know? By looking at their shoes. The class had a ratio of about 2-3 women to every man and it moved quickly. Still Ian and I were able to go from the beginner class into the intermediate and then, after a detour into the beginning cha cha class (taught by the affable Dmitry Chaplin), the salsa spins, dips and tricks class. Paul Barris taught all of the salsa classes with his partner Snejana Petrova. They are currently also performing as part of Louis Van Amstel’s “Ballroom with a Twist.”

Our advice? If you have a dips and tricks workshop, bring your own partner.
