OutKast catches twins interest for viral video

This music video by OutKast for “Hey Ya!” is fun on so many levels, but even more so when you realize that some of their fans are young–very young.

OutKast is an American hip hop duo of Andre “Andre 3000” Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton. Based in East Point, Georgia, Benjamin is actually from Atlanta and Patton from Savannah.

They’ve received six Grammy Awards. Their “Hey Ya!” is from their 2003 double album “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.” The music video “Hey Ya!” is based on the Beatles appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show” on 9 February 1964.  Benjamin plays all the band characters: keyboardist Benjamin Andre, bassist Possum Jenkins, vocalist Ice Cold 3000, drummer Dookie Blasingame, three backing vocalists The Love Haters, and guitarist Johnny Vulture. That’s eight characters.

Patton plays the manager.

The video was shot in Los Angeles at the Universal Studios in August 2003. It took two days and over one hundred girls. Benjamin performed the song 23 times and all the choreography was improvised. Ice Cold 3000 was shot first and Johnny Vulture was shot last and the energy level between the two characters shows it.

At the MTV Video Music Awards in 2004, the video won Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Special Effects, and Best Art Direction.

OutKast has some young fans whose dancing has caught the attention of the Internet.
