DWTS 15: Sabrina Bryan and Louis van Amstel

Sabrina Bryan gets a reprieve and one that was voted on by Dancing with the Stars’ fans. She was chosen over another Disney kid, Kyle Massey, and the king of dance floor camp, Carson Kressley. When Bryan competed during season 5, she was paired with Mark Ballas, but finished a dismal seventh.

That, unlike Pamela Anderson, didn’t have anything to do with her scores. Bryan was in the 2003 Disney channel original movie “The Cheetah Girls” about a group of girls who could sing and dance.

Vote: 1-800-868-3403.

Age: 28

Born: 16 September 1984

Season: 5

  • Winners: Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough
  • Second: Mel B and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
  • Third: Marie Osmond and Jonathan Roberts
  • Sixth: Sabrina Bryan and Mark Ballas

Best dance:

  • Paso doble (30)
  • Rumba (28)
  • Jive (27)

Worst dance:

  • Cha cha cha (26)
  • Quickstep (26)
  • Foxtrot  (25)

What went wrong with the team of Bryan and Ballas was the audience voting. They had the high score for week 1 with a 26 (9, 8, 9) to “Don’t Cha” by the Pussycat Dolls. They were second in week 2 after their quickstep to “They’re Red Hot” by Robert Johnson. .

Week 3 saw them in a three-way tie for first with 27 (with Mel B. and Jane Seymour). Bryan and Ballas performed a jive to “Shake, Rattle and Roll” by Huey Lewis and the News. Mel B. and Chmerkovskiy also performed a jive (“Sweet Soul Music” by Sam & Dave). Seymour and Dovolani tangoed to “Perfida” from “Shall We Dance”?

Week 4, the team had the top score with a perfect 30/30 for their paso doble to “You Spin Me round (Like a Record)” by Dead or Alive). Week 5, they finished second with a 28 to Mel B. and Chmerkovskiy’s 29. That was for their rumba to “Me & Mrs. Jones” by Billy Paul.

Week 6, they performed to “I’m a Woman” by Peggy Lee. They won over Carrie Ann Inaba for a 9, but the rest were eights. They got a low score of 25 for the foxtrot which still beat Seymour and Dovolani (22) and Osmond and Roberts (23). But Osmond had a bigger fan base. Osmond and Roberts would finish in third place.

Bryan has the ability, but we wonder if she’ll have the chemistry with van Amstel. Van Amstel. Van Amstel and Monique Coleman (“High School Musical”) made it to the semi-finals but were eliminated to finish fourth during season 3. Season 9, he was paired with Kelly Osbourne and they finished third. That was his highest finish on “Dancing with the Stars.” He was paired with Kendra Wilkinson during season 12 and Wilkinson had critical comments after the show. If he can capture the magic he had with Osbourne who really blossomed in their partnership, then their dancing will certainly be worth watching. However, you have to wonder if Bryan and van Amstel have the fan base that can take a mediocre dancer to the semi-finals.

With “Dancing with the Stars: All Stars,” there’s not much room for missteps because six celebrities have won, three have placed second and two have placed third.

One couple will be eliminated on Tuesday night on “Dancing with the Stars: The Results Show.” Justin Bieber and Pitbull will perform on the show.

“Dancing with the Stars” premieres tonight, Monday, September 24, on ABC at  8 p.m.  and the “Dancing with the Stars: The Results Show” premieres Tuesday, September 25 at 8 p.m.  on ABC.
