Rick Fox: Dances

Rick Fox was doing well, consistently better than Bristol Palin, but dance fans, we were wrong and ABC executives were right. There’s a following out there for Bristol the Pistol. How else can one explain her continued presence on “Dancing with the Stars”? Fox and his partner Cheryl Burke were mismatched height-wise. I would have loved to have seen Fox dance with Edyta Sliwinska, who quit the show before the season (11) started.

Just for you to review Fox and Burke’s accomplishments, I’ve posted the videos below.

Fox and Burke at this time (3 November 2010) hold the best score for cha cha cha (27 along with Brandy and Kurt Warner), quickstep (27 along with Brandy), samba (along with Jennifer Grey and Brandy), rumba (24, along with Brandy who got two scores–technical and performance).  Fox and Burke do not have the low score for any dance.

Palin and Mark Ballas have the low score for the foxtrot with 19 and the rumba with her 14 performance score.

DTWS: Compare Argentine tango performances

Argentine tango (technique/performance)

  • Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough: 27 (9,9,9) 29 (10,9,10)=56
  • Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani: 24 (8,8,8) 22 (8,7,7)=46

Week 9, Brandy Norwood and Maksim Chmerkovskiy performed to “Taquito Militar” by Conjunto Tipico del Tango for a score of 30.

DWTS: Compare the sambas

Talk about sexy sambas? Three of the four teams were tied and Margaret Cho and her partner Louis van Amstel also failed in telling a clear story despite the storyline provided by the song itself.  Grey goofed on her samba and I didn’t particularly like the storyline.

Cho and van Amstel were eliminated.

Samba

  • Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough: 24
  • Brandy Norwood and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: 24
  • Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke: 24
  • Margaret Cho and Louis van Amstel: 18

Week 8, Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas performed the samba for a score of 24 (8, 8, 8) to “Mas Que Nada” by Sergio Mendes.

Week 9, Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer performed a samba to “She’s Got Me Dancing” by Tommy Sparks for a score of 29 (10, 9, 10).

DWTS: Compare jive routines (VIDEOS)

The dance category had the high and low of the night. Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough were the high, repeating their score from last week.  Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower would be the low.

People were critical of the dog house and making Bolton act the part of a dog, but seriously, folks…the guy can’t dance. His musicality is all in his voice.

The athletes, Rick Fox with Cheryl Burke and Kurt Warner with Anna Trebunskaya were a joy to watch.

Jive:

  • Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough: 24 (8,8,8) “Shake It”
  • Brandy Norwood and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: 21 (7,7,7) “Magic”
  • Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke: 21 (7,7,7) “Tush” – ZZ Top
  • Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya: 21 (7,7,7) “Danger Zone”
  • Margaret Cho and Louis van Amstel: 18 (6,6,6) “Dreaming”
  • Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower: 12 (4,5,3) “Hound Dog”

During week 5, Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas performed the jive to the theme from “The Monkees” for an 18.

Week 8, Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer danced to “Good Golly Miss Molly” by Little Richard for a score of 29 (10, 9, 10).

DWTS: Compare quickstep routines (VIDEOS)

Here’s a surprise, reality TV star Audrina Patridge was tops in the quickstep but not good enough to keep Tony Dovolani from waxing his legs.

Quickstep:

  • Brandy Norwood and Maksim Chermkovskiy: 27
  • Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke: 37 (10, 9, 9, 9) or 27 adjusted.
  • Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya: 24
  • Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani: 23 (8,8,7) “Love Machine” – Girls Aloud

During Week 5, Brandy Norwood and Maksim Chermkovskiy received a 27 (9,9,9)  for their quickstep.

During week 5, Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya dance to the theme song for “Bewitched.” They received a 24.

Week 7, Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke: 37 (10, 9, 9, 9) Quickstep to “Hey Pachuco” by Royal Crown Revue. Adjusted score: 27. They were eliminated.

During week 8, Jennifer Grey & Derek Hough danced to “Let’s Face the Music and Dance” by Frank Sinatra for a score of 27 (9, 9, 9)

Can Rick Fox lose his death grip of fear? (VIDEO)

Cheryl Burke has already mentioned that she and her celebrity partner, former Laker Rick Fox,  have a very basic problem: their height disparity. She’s dancing with his chest and not his face. What short girl hasn’t done that?

What you don’t want is the death grip of fear. That’s usually the woman, but in this case, Fox is holding on a bit too tight.

Can he relax and be elegant for the Viennese waltz? Let’s hope so. At the very least, Fox has a sense of humor and should look elegant in a tux (if that’s what he’s wearing).

“Dancing with the Stars” premieres on Monday, 20 September 2010.
