DWTS 14 Week 4: Sherri Shepherd tangles with the tango (VIDEO)

On “Dancing with the Stars” season 14, Sherri Shepherd didn’t exactly rock Rock Week. While Shepherd showed she could light up the stage the first week with her foxtrot and even bring a little drama from her life with her rumba last week, this week the tango and her tangled.

That might have been partially the problem with Rock Week and also partially Val Chmerkovskiy’s strategy. They danced to “Cum On Feel the Noize” by Quiet Riot. Her boots seemed to be too much for her because we know she can handle heels. She was able to rock it out on the judges’ table, but the steps on the ballroom floor were a bit wild.

Head judge Len Goodman commented that although he loved the start, the routine didn’t suit her bubbly personality. He thought she coped well, but that isn’t going to be enough with this tough field.

Bruno Tonioli asked her slyly “Voulez-vous coucher avec mois?” But he also felt her moves needed to be a bit sharper.

Carrie Ann Inaba agreed with Goodman saying that the routine lacked Shepherd’s usual exuberance. She thought Shepherd’s face was expressionless.

For the female fans, we did get to see Val’s chest and like Shepherd, we can fully appreciate it. Did you like the tattoo across Val’s chest?

DWTS 14 Week 2: Sherri Shepherd in fifth place (VIDEO)

Sherri Shepherd had a surprise up her sleeve at the beginning of her second routine last night on “Dancing with the Stars” season 14. And things got moving once she tore off those whole dress for a Tina Turner-inspired routine that garnered Sherri Shepherd a 23 to be tied for fifth place.

Shepherd continues to surprise and delight and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy might emerge from his brother Maksim’s shadow. Val looks like he has a winner while Maksim’s partner Melisssa Gilbert is stiff.  Shepherd had a few mistakes–one more obvious than the others, but she took the advice my dance teachers always give–fake it and don’t let your audience know you’ve done an “oops.”

Bruno Tonioli exclaimed,  “You know how to work all of that magnificent equipment” and she can really shake it. Another score for thick girls.

Carrie Ann Inaba laughed and commented,  “Sherri Shepherd I’m in love with you” and praised her confidence. Isn’t that what our teachers always tell us? Confidence and get the audience on your side.

Shepherd got head judge Len Goodman on her side, and he was all smiles when he said, “You felt good, I felt good and the audience felt good.” He did, however, note,  “I would have liked more jive content” but that was something he felt at this stage was very minor. Shepherd and Val were the second highest scoring team for the jive and they were tied for fifth place with the combined scores. The question from here is can Val increase the content and can Shepherd pull it off?

We hope she comes back and from the roar of the crowd, we think she has the votes as well as the talent to shake, shake it.

DWTS 14 Week 1: Sherri Shepherd dances with joy

I have to admit when I learned that Sherri Shepherd of “The Voice” wasn’t sure the earth was round, I knew she wasn’t a rocket scientist and worried that she might be too dense upstairs to get her downstairs moving well enough. Last night on the premiere of “Dancing with the Stars” season 14, Shepherd with her partner Val Chmerkovskiy was fun, flirty and every ounce a performer in her foxtrot.
Shepherd is a natural on the dance floor and another great example for thick girls. I don’t want to hear her talk on “The View” but I want to see her dance. She just sparkles and every moment she’s expressing joy. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that she’s dressed in my favorite color. The couple danced to The Four Seasons classic “Sherry.”
What you don’t hear on this video, is her comments. She’s funny. She apologized for every critical remark she’d ever made about DWTS celebrity contestants and said that the only thing more painful was child birth. Then she added that she thought she lost a boob on the floor.
Maybe she’ll lose some weight, but hopefully not the joy she brings.
Carrie Ann Inaba exclaimed that Shepherd was “the happiest contestant we’ve had” in the 14 seasons and Shepherd just exudes joy. Inaba loved how Shepherd transitioned from sassy into beautiful and elegant.
Len Goodman mentioned there were one or two incidents, but otherwise, her performance was “fun, fun, fun.”
Bruno Tonioli exclaimed,  “I could so with a bit of Sherri every day of the week” and remarked that Shepherd was light on her feet with great timing. I hope she sticks around and we’ll get to see how Val Chmerkovskiy works with someone who has personality plus.
Shepherd and Val ended the evening in a four-way tie with 23 points.
  • Katherine Jenkins & Mark Ballas: 26

Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins and Pasadena’s Jaleel White lead

Opera singer Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas were tied with Jaleel White and Kym Johnson with 26 points. Both got nines from Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba; it was head judge Len Goodman who only thought the two worthy of eights.

Both couples danced the foxtrot.

This week there was no one celebrity that was so awful your eyes hurt. Three couples were tied for last place, but with a respectable 20. Tennis great Martina Navratilova and her partner Tony Dovolani performed the cha cha cha; Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Gavin Degraw and Karina Smirnoff performed the foxtrot.

Navratilova is 55; Gilbert is 47 and DeGraw is 35. Quite an age spread at the bottom. Jack Wagner is 52. It’s Gladys Knight who at 67 is the oldest contestant this season.

Knight received the same score as the youngest contestant, Roshon Fegan. They were in a group of four couples tied for fourth with 23.
