DWTS 14 Week 5: Maria Menounos tied for third

Last night on “Dancing with the Stars” season 14, it was Latin night, and Maria Menounos and her partner Derek Hough finished the night tied with Donald Driver and his partner Peta Murgatroyd for third. That was despite falling flat on her face while she was learning the routine as we saw in the rehearsal package.

Menounos and Hough were one of three couples that danced the salsa. Dressed in a yellow fringed top and skirt that bared her midriff, Menounos danced to “The Cup of Life” by Ricky Martin. Hough at one point took off his shirt, but that was awkward as was the kiss that was choreographed into the routine. Hough rarely makes a wrong step, but here he did and Carrie Ann Inaba called him on it.

Carrie Ann Inaba said the routine was hot, but admonished,  “I don’t think you need the kiss…Dance is about the illusion of passion.”

Len Goodman quipped that two things were revealed: Derek’s body and Maria’s talent and he was only impressed with the latter.

Bruno Tonioli got a bit racy because ABC cut out his comments on this clip. Tonioli asked three questions:

  1. Was it legal?
  2. Want me to get you a room?
  3. Can I join in?
Of the three couples who danced the salsa, Menounos and Hough were the high score with 27 points. Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower were one point behind with a 26 (9, 8, 9). Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy received a 21 (7, 7, 7). Gilbert, like Menounos, is injured. Remember her concussion and neck injury? Both women are real troopers and aren’t whining. They have grit and you have to give them credit for that.
Menounos and Hough weren’t the high score of the season for salsa. That was William Levy and Cheryl Burke who received a 28 (9, 9, 10) during week 3.
Menounos and Hough should go forward to compete next week and hopefully Menounos won’t suffer any more injuries.
